This site is focused on serving the needs of the predoctoral program in Pediatric Dentistry at UCLA School of Dentistry. Announcements and information regarding clinical requirements will be archived here. In addition, this site will allow for the exchange of ideas regarding oral health care for children.

Grading Criteria

Grades will be entered for the following grading periods, based on the information on your Pediatric Dentistry Clinical log sheets:

Summer quarter 4th year
To receive a passing grade:
-Complete your assigned Children's Dentistry block rotation. Regardless of holidays or clinic closures, you must complete at least 3 days in the clinical care of children with the residents in the UCLA Children’s Dental Center.
-Complete 2 additional days in the care of children. You are to schedule these on your own initiative. You may complete these in the UCLA CDC OR by participating in the USC/UCLA Mobile Dental Clinic. Your assigned rotations at the Inglewood Children's Dental Center and the Venice Dental Center do NOT count toward these days.
-Complete the first 3 competency exams – Diagnosis and Treatment Planning, Prophylaxis and Fluoride, and Bite Wing X-rays.
-SUMMARY: a minimum of 5 days in the clinical care of children, and 3 competency exams completed

Fall quarter 4th year
To receive a passing grade:
-Complete your assigned Venice Dental Center block rotation, which is between 4-5.5 full days.
-Complete as many additional days in the care of children as needed to complete the equivalent of 5 full days. You are to schedule these on your own initiative. You may complete these at the Venice Dental Center, the Inglewood CDC, OR by participating in the USC/UCLA Mobile Dental Clinic.
-Complete the local anesthesia competency exam
-SUMMARY: a minimum of 10 total days in the clinical care of children, and 4 competency exams completed

Winter quarter 4th year
To receive a passing grade:
-Complete your assigned Inglewood Children's Dental Center block rotation, which is between 6-9 full days.
-Complete as many additional days in the care of children as needed to complete your total requirements for days of clinical care and successful completion of competency exams. You are to schedule these on your own initiative. You may complete these at the Venice Dental Center, the Inglewood CDC, OR by participating in the USC/UCLA Mobile Dental Clinic.
-Complete all competency exams
-SUMMARY: a minimum of 18 total days in the clinical care of children, and all competency exams completed

On a Continuous Basis
-Failure to show for an assigned rotation without notification will result in a NP grade for the quarter
-Failure to turn in log sheets will result in an INC grade
-EPRs will be given for professional behavior and exceptional progress toward graduation requirements
