Rotation at the Venice Dental Center

ORIGINALLY POSTED 8/10/06

When
-Winter Quarter third year through Fall Quarter fourth year as assigned through the clinic director's office.
-Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday for your assigned quarter
-Half day pediatric patients, half day adult patients OR mixed pediatric/adult

How many days for the entire block
A minimum of 8 half days. Any days beyond this will count toward your total requirement of 18 days in the clinical care of children.

Attendance
Your personal attendance log sheet must be signed for each half-day session of pediatric patient care in addition to signing the Venice Dental Center sign-in sheet. If you are assigned to a day in which there is mixed pediatric/adult care, you may only receive credit for the half day in which you are scheduled with a child. The exception to this is if you see at least three children in two different clinic sessions in one day. Then you may be credited with a full day of clinical participation. No credit will be given without a faculty signature. Only the attending pediatric faculty member or resident may sign.

Competency Exams
Your personal competency log sheet may be signed by the attending resident or faculty member. Remember to tell the supervising dentist that you intend to take a competency exam before you begin the procedure. You may take any of the competency exams during this rotation.

Alternative Activities
On occasion you will be assigned to attend a health fair or school visit in lieu of clinic attendance. This will substitute for your time in the clinic and count toward your total requirement. However, competency exams will not be possible in this context.

Schedule conflicts and Makeup days
According to Venice Dental Center policy. All makeup days in pediatric dentistry must be completed by the end of Fall quarter 4th year to receive a passing grade.
